Frequently Asked Questions

Prayer Times & Notifications

Why are my prayer times different from my local mosque?

Prayer time calculations can vary based on the method used. Go to Settings > Prayer Times > Calculation Method and try different methods (ISNA, MWL, Umm al-Qura, etc.) to match your local mosque. When in doubt, follow your local mosque's times.

I'm not receiving prayer notifications. What should I do?

Check these settings:

Can I customize the adhan (call to prayer) sound?

Yes! Go to Settings > Prayer Times > Notification Sound and choose from several traditional adhan recordings or use a simple notification tone.

Memorization & Progress

How does the memorization tracking work?

Zikrah lets you select verses you're working on memorizing. As you review them, you can mark your confidence level. Verses you've marked as "memorized" are tracked in your progress, and Zikrah will periodically remind you to review them to maintain long-term retention.

I accidentally marked a verse as memorized. Can I undo it?

Yes! Long-press on any verse in your memorization list and you'll see options to edit your progress or remove it from your memorization list.

Can I set memorization goals?

Yes! Go to Memorization > Goals and set daily, weekly, or monthly targets for verses to memorize. Zikrah will track your progress and send encouraging reminders.

Account & Syncing

How do I sync my progress across devices?

Create an account (Settings > Account > Sign Up), then sign in with the same account on your other devices. Your memorization progress, bookmarks, and settings will automatically sync.

What happens if I use the app without an account?

All your data is stored locally on your device. You can use Zikrah fully offline, but your progress won't sync to other devices. You can create an account later, and your existing data will be uploaded.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. Note that this will permanently remove all your data from our servers. If you're using Zikrah on multiple devices, the data will be removed from all of them.

Reading & Translations

Which translations are available?

Zikrah includes several popular English translations (Sahih International, Yusuf Ali, Pickthall) as well as translations in Urdu, Arabic tafsir, and other languages. You can download additional translations in Settings > Translations.

Can I read the Quran in dark mode?

Yes! Zikrah supports dark mode. It will automatically match your phone's system setting, or you can manually choose Light or Dark mode in Settings > Appearance.

How do I bookmark verses?

While reading, long-press on any verse and select "Add Bookmark." You can view all your bookmarks in the Bookmarks tab.

Technical Issues

The app is crashing or freezing. What should I do?

  1. Make sure you're using the latest version of Zikrah (check your app store for updates)
  2. Restart your device
  3. If the issue persists, try clearing the app cache (Settings > Storage > Clear Cache)
  4. As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall the app (your data will be preserved if you have an account)

I lost my progress after updating the app!

Don't worry! Your progress is still there. Try:

The prayer times aren't updating after I traveled to a new location.

Go to Settings > Prayer Times and tap "Update Location." Make sure location services are enabled for Zikrah. If you're using a manual location, update it to your new city.
